Man, I can't tell you how jealous I am of Andrew Wildman. Not that he has an easy job by any stretch, but he gets to work with the original G1 character models, rather than modern takes on the characters.

As much as I enjoy putting in the painstaking detail on the current designs of Transformers that I draw from Robots in Disguise, MTMTE, or any other IDW iteration that I've worked on, trying to create a realistic depiction of the characters... there's just such a beautiful simplicity in the original TF character models. It always gives me great joy to draw these guys as they appear in the original cartoons and comics.

This was just a sketch of Wheeljack I did for a friend last night.

I agree with your statement. Something about growing up with the cartoon...no matter how cool they're depicted in this age...nothing really beats the original design of these classic characters. As TF fans, our favorite characters get reformatted regularly which is cool (I think we're spoiled with how much talent is in the TF pool) but it's also disappointing at times. On the other hand spiderman still looks like spiderman if you know what I mean.
